Desperate to be with Aaron, Regina travels west just as the Germans begin their invasion of the Soviet Union. After the birth of their daughter, Lena, Aaron is captured and sent to a German POW camp in Poland. Against all odds Regina carries Lena across war torn areas and disguises herself as a German nurse in order to enter the camp. Months later, when the war ends, she makes a heartbreaking choice to protect her young daughter. When Lena finally discovers her mother's secret, she and her mother return to the Soviet Union to fulfill Regina's promise to the man she loved"--
