"Mommy's Khimar" is gorgeously illustrated and playful in tone. A little girl gets into her mother's closet and admires all of her scarves (khimar/hijab) before pulling out her favorite one - a bright, sunny yellow - to play in. We are treated to the vivid imaginings of a child from that moment onward. Religious diversity is briefly touched upon, but this book is not meant to explain Islam to non-Muslims. This is a story about a child playing dress up with her favorite of her mother's clothing - in this case, a yellow khimar. This beautiful book is sure to become a favorite for those seeking diverse #OwnVoices narratives for children.
