This is a utopian dream novel; so you have to let go of Earth right off the bat. Usually, I have a gripe with authors ditching the earth, but it's looking more and more likely as the years pass. Anyway, sentient plants--great idea and well crafted. The timeline is a bit skewed so that we meet generations of Pacifists, as they call themselves, but it definitely works. How the plants work together to help or harm the animals is intriguing and, of course, it's chock full of anthropomorphism. The human animals accept the idea of sentient plant life curiously easily but the other "higher" animal life forms are terrifying to them. Hmm. Well-thought out character development and an ending that can also be a beginning, without being a cliff-hanger (thank you).
