"I wish they all could be California girls!" (lyrics excerpt from "California Girls" written by Brian Wilson). To this very day, The Beach Boys are, without a doubt, one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful pop bands of all time. At the very height of their phenomenal popularity these hipsters from L.A. were the chief competitors to The Beatles. Throughout the 1960s (and, yes, even into the 1970s), The Beach Boys' distinctive "California Sound" was in perfect sync with the American youth culture of the day which wholeheartedly embraced the thrill of surfing, cars and romance. Though the band's lineup has changed considerably over these many years, the original Beach Boys were the 3 Wilson brothers (Brian, Dennis & Carl) plus their cousin (Mike Love) and a close friend (Al Jardine). Together these 5 talented dudes were responsible for creating some of the most unique "sounds of summer" ever recorded on vinyl. This Beach Boys' "Best Of" CD contains 30 of the band's hottest and most memorable tunes (from between 1962-1986), such as - Surfer Girl, Good Vibrations, Help Me, Rhonda & Sloop John B, to name but a few.
