Kathleen writes a very thought provoking story about a taboo subject. She really makes you think about life from Annabel's perspective. We learn about his thinking at different ages and how he really had to figure things out for himself. I was shocked at both his doctors and parents reactions and how they kept so much from him. I thought he was very lucky to have the teacher for a friend. Again, how she was treated was unbelievable but probably an accurate portrayal for that time. I found I could hardly put it away as I wanted to know what would happen next. It is one of my favourite books!
