A wonderful portrait of a small town in the Pacific Northwest US, with a tapestry of its inhabitants; kind and mean and small-minded and philosophical and dying and living and in love with the place and can't wait to get out, and trying to survive after the dying of the fishing and logging industries. Lovely poetic rendering of the green setting overlooking the Pacific. One quibble I had is that the characters spend a lot of time picking and eating salmon berries, and I have always found salmon berries to be incredibly tasteless and not worth the time to pick them.
