It is important to know that ALL of Skousen's primary books were initially written years ago.... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleon_Skousen And to understand the fact that because Skousen claims something does NOT make it a fact! Nor that most of his "quoted" statements and situations were taken out of context (and / or edited). Obviously, there was no real cross-checking of ANYTHING presented by Skousen (as it is all BS). People who bought into this line of pseudo science / pseudo history (mostly I personally believe due to it being pushed by Glenn Beck and the author idolized by the Tea Party groups, similar groups like the Liberty Coalition, and the 912 groups) should be ashamed of themselves! (*) Read "The Mormons" by Fitzgerald. Google and discover how - in the mid 1980s - a Mormon prophet baptized ALL the Founding Fathers as MORMONS! I find it interesting that (when checking this book and author's other books through Amazon) that THIS book (pushed by Beck and the groups indicated) has so many readers and reviewers while the SAME AUTHOR's books on his clearly non Christian (quite severely fundamentalist Mormonism, to point of being shied away from by mainstream Mormon leaders) have so very, very, very FEW readers and reviewers!!! Strange. Anyway... Simple non biased research would show this to be the extreme fiction that it is! And then these "positive" readers would grasp the meaning of propaganda and their lack of TRUE faith! For a TRUE view of our main Founding Fathers, read "Revolutionary Spirits" by Reverend Gary Kowalski. And read up on Thomas Paine, one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, of the Deists and whose pre and early Revolutionary War publications were massive best sellers and significantly fanned the LIBERAL REVOLUTIONARY spirit that encouraged the insurgents to - with significant help from (royal) France - to eventually win this both ideological revolutionary war and civil war (as a great many - 1/3 according to John Adams - Americans were very conservative Tories, aka American Loyalists, who actively supported and fought for the British King). See also review of 2007 book version. (*) Why would a local Tea Party affiliated "Christian Liberty" group recommend solely this book (not even the Bible) to its members and all "patriots" while meeting in a church whose denomination (rightfully) denies that Mormons are Christian?
