"A hypnotic domestic noir novel in which a house swap becomes the eerie backdrop to a crumbling marriage, a torrid affair, and the fatal consequences that unfold Be careful who you let in. When Caroline and Francis receive an offer to house swap--from their city apartment to a house in a leafy, upscale London suburb--they jump at the chance for a week away from home, their son, and the tensions that have pushed their marriage to the brink. As the couple settles in, the old problems that permeate their marriage--his unhealthy behaviors, her indiscretions--start bubbling to the surface. But while they attempt to mend their relationship, their neighbor, an intense young woman, is showing a little too much interest in their activities. Meanwhile, Caroline slowly begins to uncover some signs of life in the stark house--signs of her life. The flowers in the bathroom or the music might seem innocent to anyone else--but to her they are clues. It seems the person they have swapped with is someone who knows her, someone who knows the secrets she's desperate to forget"--Provided by publisher.

A rather interesting thriller; however, not as good as the publisher's reviewers comments. Not "fantastic' as Lee Child commented. I would not necessarily recommend it, despite the fact that I did enjoy the story.

Everything a psychological thriller should be - you’ll never think about swapping houses the same way again!

When Caroline agrees to a house swap, she has no idea what she is getting herself into. She and her husband Francis are in dire need of a vacation away to reconnect with each other, but who exactly have they let into their home while they are away???

Told in “Home” and “Away” sections, the reader learns details of Caroline’s life and marriage in both past and present. There are also chapters told from the chilling, unknown point of view of their house guest.

Pros: this book kept me on the edge of my seat...

Cons: perhaps the book went in circles a little too long to draw things out, but it was still quite good.

A very good psychological of the best I have read lately!

I agree that the book was pretty slow in regards to development, but it was interesting enough to keep me wanting to read more.
I would have enjoyed a quicker pace, but the short chapters and switch between past and present definitely helped.
I liked that there was an added twist, making you reconsider what you thought you knew while reading the majority of the book. However, the married main characters were both extremely unlikable and seemed to get off very easily for their wrongdoings.

I really enjoyed how the author kept switching from the past to the present, she had me guessing the whole time.
