I didn't even make it to Regency England. The back story was so unnecessary and "current" in the female developer and work politics that I stopped before even getting to Austen. It might have been better with a different back story, but in this case, not for me.

I loved this book from the first page, actually the second and third sentence: “The world stilled. It wasn’t the first time I wondered how one voice, one presence, could quicken the air and simultaneously stop all motion.” And so we are introduced to Nathan, the one who others can see is smitten, but Mary is somewhat blind to. I loved the holiday in Bath, with period costumes and other details that transport you to the time of Jane Austen. Mary’s modern-day work as an engineer and “gizmo” developer was a strong contrast to historical ways. The conflict with a new boss at work, the conflict with her best friend, the mental illness when her friend confuses past and present, all provide many layers that keep you turning pages.

Excellent book by Katherine Reay. If you like a bit of history and romance then you will enjoy it. It follows the story of two friends who take a vacation in Bath, England and live as if they are in Jane Austen's time. They end up learning a lot about each other and themselves. An entertaining, and enjoyable read.
