Leading attorney Shigemori takes on the defense of murder-robbery suspect Misumi who served jail time for another murder 30 years ago. Shigemori's chances of winning the case seem low; his client freely admits his guilt, despite facing the death penalty if he is convicted. As he digs deeper into the case, as he hears the testimonies of the victim's family and Misumi himself, the once confident Shigemori begins to doubt whether his client is the murderer after all.

It is a good, psychological drama! It is intense and keeps a viewer on one's toes! Mostly filmed indoors, not an action movie!

The actors were quite good! The story itself was convoluted due to the defendant's constant lying and changing of his story! The lawyer's challenge is trying to figure out what really happened, and why the accused, he is trying so hard to defend in court, keeps changing his story! Is the accused just a mean killer, who cannot change his ways, and will keep on killing, as this Lawyer's Father, an ex-Judge, says? Or is there an honorable motivation involved and the accused got just caught up in the certain circumstances/lives? Or, somewhere in-between?
That is why this is a philosophical movie, also!

The story goes back and forth, as the lawyer tries to figure out this man's story! And the accused makes it very, very hard for him!!
Nothing is straightforward in his story!

This movie can be somewhat difficult to follow due to it being a complex story and it being a foreign movie, which can have the unfamiliar cultural aspects, and having to be intent on reading the Subtitles! It does not have a neatly- packaged conclusion, which was frustrating to me! In real life, not all stories have all the answers, and we shouldn't be quick to judge people! Perhaps, that is what the Director tried to say!

This Director is a perfectionist, who is, also, an Author of the story! Do watch the Extras and the Short film!
