Ali Afshar (Alex Dodd) pretty much depicts his life story in this tale of Ali Jahani a teenage refugee escaping the Iranian Revolution. Jahani faces racism and descrimination but is told by his rough around the edges uncle (played by Afshar) the high school principal and pretty much everyone else except his high school wrestling coach that this is the way it is and he should either fight or just go back to Iran and die. His uncle all but signs the paperwork to send him back to Iran when Jahani starts to stand up for himself, bullies and his opponents. The poor wrestling coach who is a nice guy who is into yoga, non-violence and meditation is a bit taken aback by Jahani's spunk but lets him prove himself on the mat. It is a good story and different enough from the genre of sport competition films to stand out and be worth seeing. It is not a perfect film and it doesn't tie things up with an egalitarian message instead it shows one aspect of the immigrant experience and how to cope with conflicted feelings of loyalty.

Came highly recommended to me. Did not disappoint. Very good based on true story.

I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would. Think of Rocky Balboa as a high school wrestler. The special features afterward were excellent, especially "Revisiting the Past".
