Love can move at the speed of terminal velocity, but as award-winning director Makoto Shinkai reveals in his latest manga comic, it can only be shared and embraced by those who refuse to see it stop. 5 Centimeters Per Second is a faithful adaptation of one of Shinkai's most recognised works, a powerful and timeless manga romance. Originally available only as a two-volume series, this single 560 page omnibus better replicates the pace and feel of the original film.

Staff Book Review: 5 Centimeters Per Second

Written in 2007, 5 Centimeters Per Second by Makoto Shinkai, is a Manga novelization of an anime movie by the same name. The manga is illustrated by Seike Yukiko. The story is set in the early 1990’s when cellphones and email have not gained widespread use. This is an important plot device in this tale of unrequited love, missed meetings, and miscommunication. I really loved this graphic novel. It was really well thought out and it had a nice plot. Just wished it didn't end so abrupt.

I love this story, one of the best I've seen from shinkai. I love how Shinkai makes the reader face the reality of what it means when you grow up and how we often failed to grasp what really matters in our lives.
