A group of Mexican illegal immigrants attempt to make the journey to America, but they are hunted at the U.S.-Mexico border by a malicious vigilante who plans to kill them for fun (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

One sick movie. A basket case, a sick dog, and a high powered rifle. And ninety percent subtitles. Not a good mixture. I think if anyone thinks this way the Mexicans should welcome Trump's wall to keep out any strays crossing the border going the other way south.

Cruel, gruesome and racist motivated. It wasn't border patrol who killed-it was a U.S. citizen, who went to great measures to kill anyone entering his country.

Not a good movie at all: liberal slant on illegal immigration, not entertaining; boring; thank god it ended.

However, the movie did show how effective border patrol can be!

Pretty mediocre affair- it actually comes off as more of a bad Mexican propaganda piece about illegal immigrants in the USA. Disappointing.

Kind of an edge of your seat movie. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is hot, even when he plays a bad guy.

Its a getting hunted in the desert movie with more stereo typing than political commentary.

Rather predictable plot, and some scenes are drawn out, but the film is relevant today in showing the struggle some people will endure for the promise of a better life, and the bigotry of a self-appointed citizen. When the tables turn on the antagonist, he feels he is just a victim, but does not accept or acknowledge that he created his own misfortune.

Also a spoiler
There is a scene where a dog is killed in a gruesome way. While this is a movie and not reality, some may find the scene particularly disturbing. The scene is relevant to the story line, and not just gratuitous.

Not much to this movie really. Very little dialog and not much of a plot. BUT, although it was pretty predictable, it still had some suspense and kept our attention. Just an average movie that you won't find yourself thinking about later.

Mexico's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Academy Awards but not nominated. A murderous "Minuteman" hunted down migrants crossing illegally through the forbidding Baja desert, near La Paz, with his ferocious dog! After watched the film with sparsely spoken words, turned on the director's comment feature and paced through some of the transition scenes. The ending thought was particularly poignant. What a big mess and quagmire at the border. 4 stars for the subject but 2 for the plot, opposite ratings for "Beyond the Reach 2014."

Film's opening, its version of "oración del migrante - the migrant’s prayer:"
Leaving is a form of dying. One never arrives until being at rest with You. You Lord, in your sudden flight from Egypt, across sown paths... multiplied the bread and healed the sick with the gospel... before returning to the Father with Your ascent. You took Abraham, father of all believers, from his land. You showed him the path to reach you. You, Lord, experienced migration. And You brought it upon all men who know what it is to live... and who seek safe passage to the gates of Heaven.
Welcome to the United States, scumbags. From now on we have to be very careful. If you see or hear anything... even if it's a fxcking rancher, you've got to hide.
No one told me it'd be this hard. I just want to get there.
