Fooled me. Original title was "Sushi and Beyond". VPL no longer has this older copy.

Part travelogue, part National Lampoon Summer vacation as author visited Japan to dive deeper into Japanese Cuisine after debate with Japanese Chef if there anything beyond Sushi. He get guilt tripped by his wife to bring along the kids.
Culture shock as they criss-cross Japan in the Fall on visiting tofu, Miso, Sake, soy sauce factories to sampling Fugu.
Author chagrined after inspecting Sumo's fridge, visiting Pokemon store on a busy Saturday or avoiding emotional blackmail from his kids on rent a puppy store.
Frankly jealous he sampled foods from fast food to High end Ginza which one must be invited by a member.
Chuckled at nondescript museum on seafood parasite samples cooling desire to order sushi.

Oh, no! Mr. Booth has put another country on my list to experience through food. I’ve been to Japan once and was so impressed with the basic tourist food we had, but now I want to go try all the different variations of the foods. I enjoyed the added perspective of traveling with two boys under the age of 7 because it gives a different perspective to a country.

originally published in great britain with the staid title 'sushi and beyond' but published in the US with a catchy title and eye catching game board cover, there is much more depth and substance than might be expected. there were a few typos, which made me wonder if the author was transcribing his handwritten notes that were somewhat illegible at times.
the book was very well researched and fun to read, with some lol moments. informative, humorous, very respectful, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would,which is always a happy surprise
