SummaryAdd a Summary
Old and forgotten, the neglected garden had a tumbledown wall and a one-wheeled barrow. No one came down the weedy path anymore to take care of the garden or to sit among the flowers. So they moved in, one by one.
Who were “they”?
They were insects!
There was a ladybug, a butterfly, a horsefly, a dragonfly, a bee, a “roly-poly”, some ants, a cricket, a lightning bug and more. Each found a wonderful place to live in the garden … a garden which was no longer forgotten, because all of the insects could now call it “home”.
Short, whimsical stories introduce the personalities of the diminutive inhabitants (who are delightfully unusual and quirky): the ladybug that enjoys making “mud angels”, the horsefly that believes he’s a horse, the bee that likes to relax instead of being “as busy as a bee”, the cricket that dreams of having great adventures, the roly poly that enjoys rolling down the hill (and spends all day climbing back up in order to roll down again) … and there are many more.
The interconnected stories are full of gentle humour and creative wordplay. Illustrated in ink, pencil and watercolor, author Lisa Moser’s cheerful book, which carries a message of cooperation and community, is a fun treat for young children.
