A young woman discovers a delicious cache of heirlooms in an abandoned safe deposit box: bundles of handwritten letters, photographs, expired passports, both American and Italian, and twenty-two leather boxes, each holding a priceless piece of jewelry. Drawn to the mysterious woman in the photographs, Jane digs deeper into the woman's luxurious, golden life and the older, dashing man who occupies her pictures and letters. The details are both glamorous and tragic, with a transcendent romance at the heart of it all that forever changes Jane and those around her.

I'll be honest: this could have been done in less than 50 pages. Did I still read the whole thing (albeit begrudgingly)? Yep!

I liked this book. The story line and characters are great. I loved going overseas, feeling as if I was there. The way she handled the jewels and found new love.

Wonderful! I absolutely loved this book. Interesting characters. Great story line. Only Danielle Steel can make it all come together.

I read her books as a guilty pleasure as they all have the same basic characters and stories just in different settings and time periods but I still usually enjoy them. This one was the worst one I have ever read by her. Totally implausible situation on so many levels. I really disliked this book!

Talk about being improbable. This story bordered on "Impossible" rather than improbable. Yet, seeing as it was a Danielle Steel book I guessed something like this was going to happen! Like all of her books the main character here, Valerie, too is a strong principled woman and the surrounding cast is well drawn out. So, even if it is rather crazy it's an enjoyable light read.

I loved the first half of the book as it delved into a mystery going back a generation. Toward the middle of the book it got a bit repetitive, but the ending is just what you want it to be.

Another great book from her. It centers when out of wedlock mothers were not spoken. She becomes her grandparents child and she knows she doesn't belong. Her journey is amazing. The characters are so alive you are drawn in.
