Machines help make work easier, like when you need to lift something heavy or reach way up high. There are six simple machines: the lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the ramp, the wedge, and the screw. Can you adjust a seesaw to lift an elephant? This is a great introduction to basic machines for the little engineers in your life. Ward and Lowery are an excellent team to bring the everyday tools to life for to young readers. It also makes a fun read-along experience for mom and child. Loved it! Even my engineer husband got a kick out it.

This book was so helpful in introducing the concept of simple machines to my kindergartener! The illustrations were relatable to her. We’ll probably check this one out again, to review next year.
