"May, 1915. On an uninhabited island in the Scillies, Alfie and his father find an injured girl - alone, and with no memory of who she is... or how she came to be there. She can speak only one word: Lucy. Is she a mermaid, a ghost? Or could she even be a German spy? Lucy cannot speak to tell them. Only one thing is for sure: she loves music, and most of all she loves the moon. As World War I rages, and suspicion and fear grow, Alfie and Lucy are ever more under threat. But Alfie never loses hope, just as Lucy never stops gazing at the moon. It's almost as if she's listening to it, as if it is telling her something she once knew"-- Provided by publisher.

This turned out to be one of my favourite books! I unintentionally learned some history through the reading of this fictional story, which I will actually remember. If I had read a history book or article, I wouldn't remember. But intertwining it with an interesting well-written tale brought history to life for me.

An amazing story that goes so deep into the plot you feel like you're there. By far my favorite book in the universe. A must read.

This latest from Michael Mopurgo of War Horse fame is another delight. He paints a vivid picture of the times a hundred years ago during WWI in the isolated village environment of the Scilly Isles where the sea is paramount.I'm sure it is based on a true story. My granddaughter should enjoy it very much and I'm waiting for her comments.
