"Raif Badawi's is an important voice for all of us to hear" -- Salman Rushdie

Raif Badawi, a Saudi Arabian blogger, shared his thoughts on politics, religion, and liberalism online. He was sentenced to 1,000 lashes, ten years in prison, and a fine of 1 million Saudi Riyal, over a quarter of a million U.S. dollars. This politically topical polemic gathers together Badawi's pivotal texts. He expresses his opinions on life in an autocratic-Islamic state under the Sharia and his perception of freedom of expression, human and civil rights, tolerance and the necessary separation of state and religion.

The preface and inroduction are good, but the author's posts aren't particularly articulate or insightful, although the sentiment is agreeable.

I've given this 5 stars because of the incredible bravery that Raif displays. How many of us would risk our lives to speak out like this? The book is small because it contains only some of his internet postings. The missing postings were likely removed by the Saudi authorities??).

Also, the U.S. and Britain have a sick relationship with Saudi Arabia which isn't helping the world to move forward in a positive manner. Both countries have sold billions of dollars of military equipment to Saudi, some of which is used to fight a war with poor pathetic Yemen.

While the Obama Administration spends [?] $100 million per Syrian rebel, who promptly forfeits his weapons to al Qaeda and flees [and people wonder why the national debt is soooo high???], and the president prattles on about the need for regime change in Syria, the number one human rights abusive government - - full of religious extremists - - is considered sacrosanct by every US president up to the present one! Much amoral in America!
[Gee whiz! Was that 15 Syrian hijackers on 9/11/01, or 15 Saudi hijackers - - could have sworn they were Saudis?!?!?!?]
