The new novel in Bernard Cornwell's number one bestselling series The Warrior Chronicles, on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg. A fragile peace governs the kingdoms of Wessex, East Anglia, under the rule of the late King Alfred's son, King Edward, and Mercia, under his daughter Aethelflaed. Uhtred, her formidable champion and greatest warrior, controls the northern parts from the strongly fortified city of Chester. But no one can prepare them for the storm that is about to descend... The Northmen, allied to the Irish, come in force under the cover of night, up the Mersey, perhaps to attack Chester, perhaps to rage and pillage through Mercia, perhaps to take the troubled kingdom of Northumbria. They are led by the terrifying Viking warrior, Ragnall Iverson, a fierce fighter and ruthless leader. He and his army are formidable enough but worse still, his brother is married to Uhtred's daughter. With his passionate determination, Uhtred will...

An excellent book for the bus or the beach: fast-paced and exciting, with a varied cast of characters that are easy to tell apart. The author is quite free with the history, but, for the most part, this helps rather than hinders the story.

For those who are fans of Cornwell's "Last Kingdom" series featuring the tales of the warrior lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg, this book will not disappoint. Virtually oozing androgens and testosterone "Warriors of the Storm" tells of the defeat of villainous Ragnal Ivarson and the establishment of a peaceful kingdom in Northumbia that seeks only peaceful relations with Englaland.
Like the other "Warriors" tales, "Warriors of the Storm" is firmly anchored in that pivotal time in the history of Britain where the future of what is to become England hangs in the balance. "Warriors of the Storm" puts us there.
There are battles; there is deceit; there is loyalty; there is betrayal; there is excitement and suspense in this novel that grips our imagination and holds onto it with persistence.
A novel to be read; a history to be revelled in; a story that cannot fail to grip..
A five star adventure for sure.

Still loving the Saxon books. This one was full of action. I agree with Eosos it's good to see his family as part of the events also. Well done Mr Cornwall & thank you.

I find that the books in this series where Uhtred is not left with time to feel sorry for himself are always the better ones. This book has him on the go and attacking from beginning to end. All three of his children are part of the story and I like the family man version of Uhtred we get to see because of it. There is no doubt that this is family, warrior style, but still, it gives a more rounded version of this character rather than just the fire breathing, battle hardened, christian hating, morose man we usually read about.

Not quite as good as the previous 8 books in the series. Can't wait for the TV series. There has to be another book where he gets Bebbanburg back!

Bloodthirsty and cunning. What's not to like? I'm always fascinated with how they hedged their bets with regard to Christianity and The Old Religion.
