***SPOILERS*** After reading the first two books in the series, this is my favorite one so far. There were so many twists and amazing parts in the book. Serafina, Neela, Yazeed, and Mahdi are all a part of the Black Fins now and are hoping to stop Vallerio and his evil deeds. Mahdi has to pretend to be in love with Lucia Volnero to get closer to Vallerio's secrets. Meanwhile, Becca is looking for her talisman and that's when she meets Marco, the duca's son, and falls in love with him. Ling was stuck at a prison camp where she is miserable but on top of the world at the same time. She is not given food or water for days but at the camp, she meets her father, whom she and her family thought was dead when he went to explore the Great Abyss. Her father has information about her talisman and Ling succeeds to find it. With all of this going on, my favourite part of the book was when Becca finds out Astrid's secret. Astrid can't sing. This was one of the biggest twists in the book. At the end of the book, Astrid decides to go out and look for her talisman. I think this book has way too many characters, which can make the book confusing at times, but overall, this is a great book to read and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who likes a nice suspenseful read. I really do wish I had more time to read so I could pick up the one after this! This book was so interesting! (Which doesn't get as much credit as it should). I was truly hooked from page one, to page three hundred and seventy seven, where a suspenseful and shocking cliffhanger left me. I don't think the subtle jokes and jabs made at the differences between humans and mermaids are really appreciated enough. For instance, they would cough up "air" instead of water, which we as humans do when choking. Did anyone notice that the cover isn't that accurate? Ling isn't actually wearing a (rather amazing, I would add) red dress when she finds the "object". But I guess the book's contents make up for it. 5/5 stars

I loved this book so much! Although you may feel that there is more detail (or could be) this is still a fun book for anyone around the age of 9 or 10. A definite must read.
