"When his cousin is accused of a heinous crime, Alex Cross returns to his North Carolina hometown for the first time in over three decades. As he tries to prove his cousin's innocence in a town where everyone seems to be on the take, Cross unearths a family secret that forces him to question everything he's ever known. Chasing a ghost he believed was long dead, Cross gets pulled into a case that has local cops scratching their heads and needing his help: a grisly string of socialite murders. Now he's hot on the trail of both a brutal killer, and the truth about his own past--and the answers he finds might be fatal" -- Provided by publisher.

Alex Cross is called back to his hometown to help his cousin Stephan prove that he didn't commit murder. Alex and his family are all with him. He has to face the fact that the community he lived in is now down on it's luck. He also gets called to help solve murders of socialite in Florida. This is another page turning book.

I quit reading Alex Cross books a few years back because at the time i was buying my books and now i eread them and check them out at the Library and i was tired of having to buy one of his books only to have it not finished in that book but had to wait and buy the next book to finish the story. I was in between books and waiting for a release and thought i would check out the Alex Cross series again. Not sure where i ended in the series i just picked this one as it was a later one published. Not terrible but my bar for this series has been lowered so it passed the time while i waiting for one of my other books to be release. I will probably do the same if i have to wait again but i wont go out of my way to read any of these any more. I guess he cant find the magic he had with Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls

As usual I really enjoyed this book. It was quite a different start but it all came together with a good surprise. Look forward to next one.

Sometimes coming home involves more than revisiting old memories. Alex Cross and family get caught up in a web of lies and danger when they go to the deep South. This is another tense thriller in the series.

After reading a few co-authored books by James Patterson, it was a pleasure to read one that he wrote himself. It revealed what happened to Alex Cross during his childhood which was interesting. The story wasn't too graphic or violent and the ending was totally unexpected. This was a good read.

Finally, Patterson has gotten back to writing good books, again, without being over-the-top graphic and sadistic as some of recent volumes.

Took 100+ pages to get into this book. Found it tiring to read about the Cross family, - especially their daughter who was probably spun into the plot? Overall quite a disappointment. No real action apart from Coco's psycho murders. A fantasy solution to his family's misfortunes. Not worth waiting for perhaps a few months to read it. There are 2 copies in the Fast Lane at Oakville Library that you can rent. I think he's lost his touch with creating great books about murder and mayhem.

I must say I have read 70+ James Patterson books and all of the Alex Cross series. I was so disappointed in this book. It lacked excitement, chase and capture and I found myself dozing instead of clawing to turn the page for what happens next. There was so much that could have been done with this story , but it's too late now.
