I am really beginning to love this series. I love the location (Mackinac Island) and the characters. In this second novel Allie get recruited by her former mentor to take part in a reality tv cooking show. Meanwhile her lovable dog Mal keeps finding body parts in the flower gardens on the island. Fun and entertaining this is a great light read for people who enjoy cozy mysteries.

I found myself completely disconnected from the story. Nothing really pulled me in. Not the characters, the mystery, the story or the sub-stories. I was hoping the romance to be on steadier grounds but I can tell it will be dragged out throughout the series and I don't have the patience for that. The book is fast-paced but I didn't find it very smooth. The abrupt pauses with clothing descriptions made me lose focus and the dialogue at times felt like it would only work in writing and not during actual conversation. Overall, I'm not finding this series as something that I MUST continue so I think I'm going to skip it.

To Fudge or not to Fudge

By Nancy Coco
From the “Candy-Coated” series of mysteries comes “To Fudge or Not to Fudge.” Do not be fooled by the playful title. This is a great little mystery. The characters are intelligent and relatable. The mystery is not dumbed down at all, there was two points that I was taken by surprise and did not see that coming. In today’s world where everyone is appearing on a reality show; myself included, the Island of Mackinac and our main character Allie are not safe from the cameras. Her mentor, Chef Peter Thomas comes to town to film a reality show and convinces Allie to appear. Things seem fine at first until the body count begins to rise and Allie finds herself working to solve the mystery. There is even a love triangle and fudge recipes included.

I am enjoying the Candy-coated mystery series with Allie as the new owner of an inn and fudge shop on Mackinac Island. I've read about Mackinac Island and am intrigued by a whole island where motorized vehicles are not allowed. The stories are entertaining and include a bit of romance and mystery -- sometimes a lot of mystery. I'm looking forward to the next in this series.
