Action is usually slow in major crimes upon Corporal Vaanes's return to his home town. But when a young aboriginal woman is discovered murdered his life is about to change. He is counted on to solve the crime as the new lead investigator with the added pressure because of his First Nation background from his mother's side. His home town is also a place where he lost a brother and his father and is trying to forge ahead of his rocky past. The town may be quiet but he has always been driven to succeed. Along with his new colleagues Vaanes is lead into a world of politics, more missing women, spying, and a possible connection to a case in his past.
