The book had a very slow boring start. She keeps looking for betrayal and at one point enought is enough. Hard to read. Definitely not up to par with Haddix's other novels.

All of the books in this series stand alone. But it is also interesting to see how the stories relate even though each book has a completely separate view point.

Desmia (the one princess who was raised in the castle) is also the only one who is familiar enough with castle politics too expect betrayal. When the expected occurs, she must face her fears to save her sisters and her country. On the way, she discovers the secrets in her own past.
