Brother Thomas and Prioress Eleanor have settled into virtuous rolls in Tyndal Priory, but Abbess Isabeau has heard otherwise and sends her brother to investigate. At the end, the author's note covers the history of inspections of religious houses, including a bibliography. This is a fascinating peek at, not only how religious houses were run, but also the attitudes of common people and "Religious Professionals" toward religion and what was actually practiced. Several of the characters develop to keep the series progressing. A satisfying read.
