A Life Against Crime

Wayne Cope grew up watching gunslingers like James Arness and Richard Boone, and began his long career as an officer of the Vancouver Police Department even before he finished college. His choice of professions offered more excitement than he could have imagined. On the force from 1975 to 2006, Cope saw practically everything on the ever-changing streets of Vancouver --he worked as a jailer and a traffic cop, talked people down from bridges, served with the dog squad, went undercover and worked in the Provincial Unsolved Homicie Unit. Behind each assignment, there is a story, a joke or an insight into the realities of police work.

About one-third is interesting, one-third is the author patting himself on the back and one-third is him throwing stones at co-workers and other police forces.
