Kind of grim. I kept hoping for a beam of light for our teacher. The whole thing with the experience in the schoolyard: I had to skim. The mystery the author dangled before us throughout the book just disappointed me. I DID like the Seattle references, though!

A wonderful book and an amazing achievement. Complex characters I came to love, intricate plot, and themes both personal and universal that permeate every page. I can't think of a book I've liked more in years, including her two earlier fine ones. A very special read.

I loved this book as well as her others. Well crafted and a worthy summer read.

A well-told tale, which I found easy enough to follow despite the time shifts. Lots of North Seattle references, which I enjoyed since I live in the area.
