This is an important book to read if you are concerned about freedom of the press, and the stifling of that voice by corporate takeover of the press by moneyed moguls. Also corporate corruption, government influenced and corrupted by money and and resulting loss of democracy due to an apathetic population. If you are concerned about the 1%'ers and their influence over our lives,...read this book.
The Epilogue is a classic statement of our times.
As the book suggests, the answer is awareness and democracy which encourages openness and transparency in industry, government. Self regulation is NOT the answer.
Be involved and don't be rolled over and your have your options hijacked in our changing times. Individuals can and do make differences. If this book teaches anything it is not to give up or slide to the dark side. Speak up.

This is the most amazing book I have read in a long time. I started it at 5.00 p.m. and ended up finishing it at 3.00 a.m. the next morning. I simple could not put it down. The shocking details of how this newspaper ruined the lives and careers of hundreds of people over the years just for spite and sales is truly staggering. What is more sickening is how the government and its agencies who were supposedly protecting and acting in the public interest pandered to the Murdoch group. The biggest hindrance to this investigation was provided not only by the illegal activities by Murdoch employees but by the police etc who were literally being bribed to hide evidence and stop investigating. The scope of what was done is breathtaking. If you are at all interested in what the Elite can and are doing to the average person this is the book for you no matter what nationality you are.

Very clear & explanatory & well-written, but there was too much inside detail for my taste.

"Hack Attack" is a well written story of what can happen when one person or entity controls the media. In this case, it is Rupert Murdoch who uses unethical and illegal means to essentially blackmail those in positions of influenence to do his bidding. Shocking but true. His power extended even over the Metropolitan Police, who are paid to protect the people but instead protected Murdoch. This outrage would still be going on if Murdoch's "journalists" hadn't interferred in the investigation of the murder of a little girl that inciteded the population. Close on, celebrities also came forward to protest against their own invasions of privacy by Murdoch papers. This really exposed the depths to which this billionaire mogul was willing to stoop to put a few dollars in his pocket. He literally believes he is above the law and ordinary citizens.

This book is outstanding, although the reader must plow through it, since it encompasses most thorough journalistic investigation - - and the nastiest of journalism is under investigation. The author sums it up perfectly: /// This neoliberalism was conceived by conservative economists and then put into effect in the early 1970s by the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, who tortured and murdered his political opponents in Chile and was celebrated by conservatives for the freedom of his economy. \\\ Also, his quote from Joseph Stiglitz: /// Those at the top have learned how to suck money from the rest in ways that the rest are hardly aware of. That is their true innovation. \\\
