The Nightmare, a dark Swedish murder mystery, is the second installment with Detective Inspector Joona Linna. The author, Lars Kepler, is actually the married couple Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril. Joona Linna is tasked with investigating two puzzling incidents: one of a drowned woman found in her dry clothing alone on a boat and also the apparent suicide of a man found hanging in his apartment. It soon becomes apparent that the two are linked. With the help of Swedish Security Police Detective Saga Bauer, the pair set about solving the mysteries as it becomes clear that a psychopath involved in arms sales is the key. As the investigation reveals, others are also in danger of being killed by this cruel man. This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller. I look forward to reading more in the series.

This 2nd book was even worse then the first one. I got 3/4's of the way through and was more than happy to return it. Ugh, where to begin. What is the plot? Who is this international arms dealer?? The hit man finds the witness in the most secret safe house within 8 hours?

People are comparing these authors with Stieg Larson, Joe Nesbo, Hakem Nessar? PPPllleeeaassseeee....

Exceptional, as always. Many twists and turns. The only thing is that sometime there are too much details, but that's ok, it's all part of the suspense making this book a book that you can't put down till you reach the end.

Action and suspense at the expense of logic, reasoning or any sign of police procedure.

The husband/wife writing team of Lars Kepler keeps the momentum, following the life of Swedish detective Joona Linna. Interesting background (based in Sweden and Norway), riveting writing and unusual incidents make this a highly unusual and interesting read. I hope there is a lot more to come for Joona!

Great race to solve the mystery of what's behind a string of unrelated deaths... Joona is an interesting character and really asks the right questions. I look forward to any future writing by the authors.

A good read that is captivating and keeps moving along. The characters have dimensions and I enjoyed the fact that the main characters fatal flaw is not that he is an alcoholic.

Characters behave in nonsensical ways, dialogue is often stilted, meaningless, or just plain bizarre, minor characters are described in far too much detail, the main character makes startlingly correct assumptions based on little or no evidence. There's enough of a plot to carry the reader through to the end, but why this author has been successful is the biggest mystery of all. Perhaps the English translation is the problem. Surely the Swedish culture isn't as oddball as this novel would make them appear.
