Laura Ingalls Wilder is widely loved as the author of the Little House books that detail her life growing up in woods and on the prairies that were the frontiers of her time. Yet unknown to readers and publishers of the time and even until recently, Laura's daughter Rose had a substantial hand in crafting those stories for children. Rose was a well-recognized writer on her own, and it was she who encouraged her mother to write, then substantially cleaned up her stories so they were fit for publication. In A Wilder Rose: Rose Wilder Lane, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Their Little Houses, author Susan Wittig Albert fictionalizes this real-life story while shedding light on the lives of both Laura and her daughter.

I agree with the first in-depth description of the book. I will add that Laura's and Rose's tenacity during the Depression and dedication to the hard work of writing inspired me. They were strong women in extremely difficult times. Rose was generous, opening her home to guests, to the support of two teenage brothers, and had expanded her outreach by her life's end.

Too much speculation without proof, and some sections are almost word for word from Ghost in the Little House. Suggest reading Ghost in the Little House first.

I thought this book would be a mystery, but it is more a historical fiction book about who really did write the "Little House" books. It is more history than fiction. Making use of letters and diaries Wittig writes a very true story. Anyone who enjoyed the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder will like this book.

Book based on Rose Wilder Lane's private journals, written during the Depression, while she was depressed. Some parts are almost word for word from William Holtz's "Ghost in the Little House."
May be confusing to read without some background knowledge.
