Mind-blowing! Really good imaginative science fiction from a Chinese author. It is perhaps useful to have some passing knowledge of physics, but not necessary, I think. Has echoes of Asimov's work (thinking of the Foundation series). The fact that it s written from a Chinese perspective and with Chinese sensibilities made for a fresh tone to what might have otherwise been a more 'conventional' sci-fi story. Currently reading the next volume of the trilogy. I have no idea how this is going to pan out! I recommend.

I really wanted to like it, and it's possible I'm just not smart enough to appreciate/understand it, but I just couldn't get in to it. I finished it, but it was a chore.

Finally got around to reading this brilliant Chinese science fiction novel. If you know a bit about Chinese history and philosophy you're going to enjoy this even more. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3.

This title is a unique take on what it would take for humanity to make contact with an alien race and what the ramifications of said contact would be for our species. A slow-burn to be sure, but one that is ultimately rewarding for the reader.

I've read the Three-Body trilogy and Ball Lightning. This author and the translator are outstanding. The translator had a tough job, going from Chinese to English and managing all the technical stuff, but he did it well. This author's work may seem too cerebral for some, but I love learning the science that he uses to back up some seemingly wild ideas. The author has incredible intelligence and imagination. I give it all 5 stars.

Read this in 7/18, but just found me notes😳
I loved the questions this book raised. They left me thinking long after I was done. I mean,
“...the laws of physics are not invariant across time and space.” —Ding Yi. !!!!!??!!
“It means that laws of physics that could be applied anywhere in the universe do not exist, which means that physics ...also does not exist.”—Prof. Wang. Wha?????
Then the author counteracts the mind-blowing physics (or not) questions with Da Shi, the cop, making observations like, “Anything sufficiently weird must be fishy.” 😂😂
Finally, the author reminds us of where this is all taking place—China.
The Earth-Trisolaris Movement is not for “common people” because they don’t have the comprehension and deep understanding of the highly educated...
Hmmm, sounds familiar.

I can see why this author is considered one the best science fiction writers in China - I consider his work right up there with the best English writers such as Herbert, Clark, Hienline, etc. Not only is this book an exciting story, but it also provides great insight into China's history and culture, while ate the same time leaving you comfortable with the surroundings in the world. His knowledge of scintific developments in America is impressive. .

President Obama recommended this, Three Body trilogy. I do not know of any other president, or former president, who has recommended a science fiction book.

by Cixin Liu...

What a ride...! Part one of a three part series. A real science fiction mind melting.
"The Three Body Problem" lived up to it's name as my mind was divided into three
parts, one visual, one mathematical, and one high tech futuristic...! I just now came
down from this adventure story.

"Impressive..! In the not to distant future Earth is divided other whether humans
should control the future of human beings, or whether extraterrestrials from a distant
solar system should get involved in steering the Earth ship away from mankind's
certain and eventual end!

Author Cixin Liu breaks new ground in America's translation of this Chinese
classic tale by introducing the reader to historic events from the 1970's, Cultural
Revolution to the Apollo Moon Missions to today's political turmoils with global warming...ect! When an ex-politico astrological physics receives a message from
"them" intelligent life in our galaxy...!

When weird multi-dimensional annomally begin impacting Earth's notable
scientists extraordinary detecting brings the loose ends together in this elegant
forecast into human nature unravels conventional thinking and defies belief.
There are moments when the reader must "go with the flow" and except that
there will be understanding in the end, so please "hang tough" good things are
ahead... as "Three Body" is no longer in Kansas anymore...! No spoilers today
folks- Like me you must "Trust The Process" and I know enjoyment will be the

A contemplation on the first contact with extraterrestrials. Very imaginative and almost cinematographic. The setting in China of the Cultural Revolution and contemporary China is fresh and exciting. The action unfolds quickly, the characters are interesting . Hard SciFi.
