Very worth while and thorough though I question whether many could follow his 21 day diet and fasting recommendations without nausea and/or hunger. I've experimented a lot with varying levels of fat and it was not appealing to me. Just the same the rest of the book was great. Also check out David Perlmutter's book on Brain Making, a whole lifestyle approach to mental and physical well being that includes a high fat, high fiber, moderate protein, low carb diet. And Tristan and his wife at Primal Edge have done a great recipe book with lots of nutrient rich foods (including pasture raised organ meat recipes).

Enjoyed this book for the clarity it did bring to my mind, concerning the ketogenic protocol.

Yes, one has to find one's sweet spot of balance between carbs, protein and fat; in order to switch from sugar burn to fat burn. Once you find it, it is so sweet.

(For some, they can't shake their grain/sugar addiction and keep relapsing.)

One of the better LCHF / Keto books. I especially liked that it emphasized that this dietary lifestyle is as much for healthy eating as it is for weight loss. In fact, excessively thin people who need to gain weight (as in lean muscle mass) will readily do so on this lifestyle.

I also especially liked that for a change it not only adopted a true LC format but made it clear that it MUST be accompanied by (ultra) high fat - and knows that GOOD FATS are your animal fats and tropical plant oils (coconut, palm, palm kernel). If one tries to make it both LC and LF, it will fail.

Also, way too many LC "Diets" fail in that they incorrectly emphasize high protein (usually along with lowered animal fats - as they just cannot lose the "animal fats are evil" myth). This book does not do that.

Unfortunately that is also the one downfall of this book. To a degree it underestimates the need for protein. Only PROTEIN can build ANYTHING in the body. Not carbs. Not fats. Carbs and fats are for energy (with fats by far the better choice).

If you are relatively sedentary, then their basic protein recommendations are just slightly low. But if you are an athlete, workout regularly, etcetera (like also to include recovering from surgery for example), much more protein should be consumed (along with ultra high levels of fat).

Still, one of the better LCHF / Keto books.
