Cotton Malone is back! A behind-the-scenes political fight between the United States and England has the unintended result of landing Cotton Malone's son, Gary, in the hands of a man with a dangerous personal agenda. It also forces Malone to come face-to-face with a baffling historical mystery: a long-buried secret that throws into question the legitimacy of the entire reign of Elizabeth I--a revelation with explosive modern-day consequences.

First time with this author & thought it was awful. Definitely off my lists.

Fanciful rewrite of English history... a concept that could have become a really good book but didn't.

Thin characters, silly dialogue (suggest a drinking game for every time a character says "spot of bother"), contrived lectures on the Tube about Kings Henry VII and VII (and their pals) and uneven plotting combine to make for a disappointing read/listen.

On the plus side, London-philes get lots of historical and geographical factoids.

Berry, the master of the action historical, explores the idea that Elizabeth I was really a man. Cotton Malone, now retired, is drawn into a case when he delivers a young man to the British while enroute to Copenhagen with his son, Gary. Berry leads his reader on an exciting chase that has the usual good guy ending. A great escape novel! I appreciate that the author always separates the historical facts from the fiction creations at the end of the book.
