I was pleasantly surprised by this album, and how 'Lucinda Williams' it is.What I'm getting at is after 'Car Wheels... which she co-produced,the following albums needed a truer direction and seemed to wander about. But this one is Lucinda in control and it's better for it, a very excellent double album.
Not much else on this double album recaptures the intensity of its first three minutes, with their unlikely yet surprisingly successful synthesis of canonized contemporary poetry (by Miller Williams, Lucinda’s father) and lowbrow bar room ballad.
