Saw as a child of 7 or 8. Re-watched as an adult of 64. Just delightful. This movie stands the test of time.

This animated film, upon its 1959 release, did not fare as well with movie audiences as Disney's previous classics. Reportedly this came as a great surprise and disappointment to Walt Disney who, as others have noted here, supervised its creation. (Meanwhile "101 Dalmatians," released just a couple of years later and featuring new animation techniques and a more modern look and sound, was much more popular--to Mr. Disney's great annoyance.)
Happily the gorgeously drawn and painted and wonderfully acted--in particular, Eleanor Audley's voice work as the haughty, elegant Maleficent is a standalone marvel, her villainy both slyly amusing and the stuff of childhood nightmares--"Sleeping Beauty" has grown steadily in audience appreciation and is now a perennial favorite.

"Some Day My Prince Will Come".... (You think?)

This beautiful, 1959, Technicolor, Disney adaptation of Charles Perrault's famous, 17th Century fairy tale features dazzling, story-book style animation that may actually surprise those accustomed to the softer style of the studio's other feature-length cartoons.

Nevertheless, Sleeping Beauty, in all of its splendor, is the last genre classic to be supervised by Walt Disney himself and belongs on any list of the best children's films (while having the added asset of being enjoyable for adults, as well).

This film is a real treat of fantasy, adventure and magic.

Without a doubt, the best Disney animated film from the classic era (and only outdone by Beauty And The Beast), Sleeping Beauty retains its appeal all these decades later. The fairy tale adaptation (and adaptation of Tchaikovsky's music) has it all- good versus evil, love, fate, a memorable antagonist, and a rousing finale. And no annoying sidekicks.

If you have not seen Sleeping Beauty, you have missed out on your childhood. I love this movie! It has always been my favorite Disney Princess movie even to this day. I actually have to say that I like this and Tangled equally, but this one is a classic.
