A drama of forced high school integration in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. After leading his team to fifteen winning seasons, white football coach Bill Yoast is demoted and replaced by African-American Herman Boone, tough, opinionated and as different from Yoast as could be. The two men overcome their differences and turn a group of hostile young men into champions. A rousing celebration of how a town torn apart by resentment, friction and mistrust comes together in triumphant harmony.

Remember the Titans is a classic sports movie, while it digs deeper into themes such as racism and overcoming challenges. The film is directed by Boaz Yakin, and it features Denzel Washington as the coach of a high school football team. The school, T.C Williams High School, is different from others since it is the first desegregated high school at the time. However, this doesn’t get rid of problems and fights between students of different races. The film is about the coach bringing the team together to perform better and resolve its issues based on racial differences. This is a great movie because it has strong, emotional scenes along with humorous ones. It is also heartwarming with a motivating tone. In addition, the acting is convincing and the movie sheds light on real-world problems of the past. I would give Remember the Titans 4 stars.

This has to be the best movie of all time. Based on a true story, it follows high school football teammates who learn to see one another as brothers amidst strong racial tensions. An absolute masterpiece.

I'm not a follower of American football, but this movie goes far beyond sports. The relationships between the players, and how they evolve, are amazing to watch. The topic is serious, but since this is Disney, you get all the benefits of a powerful message without feeling drained out at the end.

Sheryl Yoast: In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it's bigger than Christmas day. My daddy coached in Alexandria, he worked so hard my momma left him, but I stayed with coach, he needed me on that field.

Suburban Virginia schools have been segregated for generations, in sight of the Washington Monument over the river in the nation's capital. One Black and one White high school are closed and the students sent to T.C. Williams High School under federal mandate to integrate. The year is seen through the eyes of the football team where the man hired to coach the Black school is made head coach over the highly successful white coach. Based on the actual events of 1971, the team becomes the unifying symbol for the community as the boys and the adults learn to depend on and trust each other.
