Accompanied by her husband and their ten-month-old son, Angus collects samples from ancient trees to determine where the first olive tree originated, feasts on inky black tapenades and codfish drizzled with olive oil, witnesses the harvesting of olives in Greece, and visits perhaps the oldest olive tree in the world on Crete. The result is a fascinating history and biography of this most influential and irresistible fruit.

I loved this story of travel with a mission, travel with a baby on a sail boat, travel as a newly married couple. In investigating the history of the olive, I learned a deal about olive trees and olive oil, and gained an appreciation of how deeply they figure into Mediterranean history and exploration.

Excellent book by Julie (and her family). If you are into the history of the Mediterranean area - and good food and olive oil - you will enjoy this. A little too detailed at times, but overall a good read.
