More than just "curious", Ripley is portrayed as quite an eccentric, with oodles of money once he got famous and a quirky mind that led him into an atypical lifestyle. This bio is written in a plain, straightforward manner, letting the subject's interesting life carry the story forward.
This book is an interesting look at life in the 20's and 30's and just how different were people's perceptions "foreign travel" and the fads of the day. Robert Ripley once drew a cartoon of my grandfather, so I had a personal interest in finding out more about this man and the Believe it or Not books. I wouldn't say this book was fantastic or riveting, but it certainly was interesting in its own way. I'd rate it a B.
What a fun book! I got loads of insights into American culture in the pre and post WWII era. It seems that a rich Republican is a rich Republican, no matter what the century or issues.
