Add a CommentAs the subtitle says, its the portrait of an age, and as the introduction says, it has no scholarly pretensions. The book is comprised of a series of two to three page essays on social norms, personages, events, etc., with some important ones (reformation and Luther) getting several. The last chapter is a brief biography and assessment of Magellan. On the whole, a readable, pleasant book.
