This book could be classified at young adult contemporary/Christian fiction. I've read this story at least once every year ever since the first time I found it! I felt like I was really able to relate to the main character, Kate. She deals with how her morals and spiritual beliefs will impact her as she starts a new chapter in her life. This is a story of first loves, forgiveness, and friendship.

I really didn't appreciate this novel. The author promotes premarital sex and claims to be Christian. The Bible clearly states that we should be sexually pure until we're married, but the author says it's okay.

I get sexual temptation and all that, but the characters act on it.

While others might be scared off with the topic of religion, I'm personally happy that the author chose a Christian protagonist! A lot of young females will be able to identify with her struggles as she explores new relationships, both platonic and romantic. Kate is extraordinarily strong for sticking to her beliefs and opinions, all the while learning to be tolerant and accepting of others differences in both religious (or lack thereof) practices and sexuality.

I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I thought Kate was sort of annoying at first, but the more I read the book, the more I loved it. Wonderfully written with a lot of heart, a perfect summertime book.
