Staff Book Review: The Rosie Project

I forgot the last time I read a book and laughed so much. The Rosie Project sure made me smile and chuckle more than a few times. The main character, Don Tillman, has an Asperger’s syndrome – a condition that is pretty much permanent in one’s life and clearly not a laughable matter. (more)

The Rosie Project is a witty story about how true romance works! An entertaining romp inside the mind of a physics genius who suffers from asbergers syndrome who wishes to use technology to find the perfect match for marriage and the poor women who are disqualified during dinner dates for the slightest of reasons makes for a multitude of laughs! The Marriage Survey is a hit on the internet and goes viral when thousands of women try out for the marriage request, however things derail quickly when department assistant Rosie shows up to assist the professor with his growing science project. The two develop a friendship in which helping each other means getting into some weird adventures resulting in hidden skills and interest are suddenly discovered. If you love the "Big Bang Theory" you'll bust a gut reading "The Rosie Project"!

One of the few books enjoyed by the entire BEST SELLERS BOOK CLUB!
Soon to be made into a major Hollywood Movie version, we all should
keep an eye out for this one!

Quick, fun, and charming read that will make you feel good and laugh out loud. Opposites attract when boy (associate professor of genetics, Don) meets girl (quirky Rosie). Entertainment and love ensue.

The story of how a man with autism goes about selecting a life partner- how his method works and if it works? Humorous, but very believable.

Such a fun book! I listened to the audiobook version, which was particularly enjoyable b/c of the great narrator.

This was a fun laugh out loud book. Don reminded me of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. He is highly intelligent, but socially inept. He decides to start the "Wife Project" by having potential wives fill out a questionnaire, but along the way he gets sidetracked into helping Rosie find her biological father. Very humorous, but the pacing is a bit slow at points and somewhat predictable. Fun and entertaining.

I loved this book. It took a few chapters to get into the rhythm, but after that I couldn't put it down. Funny, poignant, great for anyone who's had an Aspie in their life. More introspective than I expected, just the right balance between funny, dramatic, and heartwarming. Looking forward to the sequel!

This book qualifies as an entertaining light summer read and I giggled my way through the exceedingly compulsive perspective of the main character, who likely has Asperger’s but doesn’t realize it, as he searches for a wife.

Professor Don Tillman initiates the Wife Project to find himself a compatible partner, and he ends up with Rosie, who he had ruled out as patently unsuitable. Author Graeme Simsion, an Australian, teaches us many things: love can make you do irrational things, and you don't find love-it finds you. He also illustrated the Bible lesson, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Loved this quirky book.
