I thought this was one of his best works. Great read!! I'm now going to reserve the movie and hope they didn't make too many changes from the book.

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.

Loved this book. Couldn't put it down. I didn't know they were making it a movie and just after I finished the book it came to the theater. Good read, good movie.

Michael Connelly certainly has a winner in the character of Mickey Haller. He's the perfect modern day embodiment of the irascible scoundrel of days gone by. The guy defends the scum of the earth, putting killers and rapists back on the street based on technicalities, and yet the reader loves him. In the hands of a lesser writer this book would've been a train wreck but Connelly has crafted a true gem here.

Micky Haller is a sleazy defense lawyer who will defend anyone as long as that person keeps the cash flowing. He has only one fear- to condemn an innocent man to jail. When he is paid by a seemingly rich Mamma's boy to defend him in a trial where he claims to be innocent, Haller finds himself dragged into a dark world of murder and lies. How does one go about defending pure evil?
