Danijel is a soldier fighting for the Serbs, and Ajla is a Bosnian held captive in the camp he oversees. They two knew each other before the war, and could have found love with each other. But as the armed conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship grows darker, their motives and connection to one another ambiguous, and their allegiances uncertain.

Dreary story line (even if factual). Lots of brutality and disturbing shots.

I did some searches & liked Roger Ebert's take on this 'the indifference of many moviegoers to world events affects the box office...'

I missed this film the same as so many others, typical on just how powerful censorship can be silent & disguised even in US.

Not a great fan of A.Jolie, but she sure surprised me with this excellent film apparently taken from the book Natasha's Story by Michael Nicholson. Yes, I remember news & footage during this time, but found it so confusing the who/why/where that was going on. Flash forward 10 years & it makes so much sense. The age old war i the name of religion, there's just no end to it. I may be incorrect, but think this horrific time brought about international changes & recognition to the facts of women being taken/used as leverage/coinage by the various military sides. Think 'comfort women' then the girls taken by Boko Horam (forgive my ignorance to spelling.)

Yes, it was dirty, gritty, violent, moments of sweetness, much sadness & the will to live.

Wow - this film has stayed with me for a while now - the strife - the life - just really jaw dropping - and although it is a fictitious film - it rings so true and authentic - this film is important and should be seen by all

A jarring commentary on how ordinary people can turn on one another with a "matter of fact" viciousness. The story is not over-acted and the "simplicity" in telling of the dehumanizing acts and gruesome exterminations provides shocking impact of a needless war / hate. Moments before a mass execution of which he is to be a victim, a Muslim man calmly says to the Serbian General (.. hey.. I know you.. we know each other..) A study in the human condition. A love story becomes contorted and tortured... Angelina deserved accolades galore for this body of work.

A savage, civil war of genocide that was ignored by the rest of the world, utilizing the systematic murder of males and the systematic rape of females. A story of how one unlikely couple may have kept a loving relationship in another time and place, but the vastly unequal power between them and a poisoned heritage ultimately ruined them both.

Excellent movie on many levels. Led me to explore history of region; can't remember exactly what I was doing in early '90s, but I missed (or didn't pay attention) to this horrific conflict.

Did notice that film Pretty Village, Pretty Flame (also available from KCLS) did parody several of the scenes from this drama.

Kudos to Angelina Jolie for taking the time, effort to write, direct this.

Can't believe IMDB slammed this movie so hard. I thought it was an excellent movie but very brutal, not an easy movie to stomach. The deleted scenes are worth watching and for the most part should have been included in the actual movie to help provide flow to it. Some editing on this movie is required to make it a top notch movie but still very good.

A love story woven in to the tragedy of the Bosnian war in the 90s. Angelina Jolie as director proves she is much more than a Hollywood starlet.

An amazing movie with amazing actors... and all this happened right before our eyes without anyone to take the situation under control.

If there was ever any doubt that Angelina Jolie had directorial talent...this is stunning proof. This movie is sad, and horrifying at the same time...and explains that tragic period of history.
