It opens with Rachel Swirsky's "Eros, Philia, Agape," a story about love and this is the strength of the collection, that robots in their varied forms are such great lenses for looking at the way humans live. Ian McDonald's "The Djinn's Wife" is also a love story, although of a very different kind. Catherynne Valente's "Silently and Very Fast" closes out the collection with the entwined life of an AI who started out as a house and the family who grew with her. There are also stories in a more classical vein, like Mark Pantoja's "Houses," where we watch what happens to artificial intelligences when their biological creators vanish; and a cop story, Mary Robinette Kowal's thoroughly entertaining "Kiss Me Twice".
