This book is a dystopian YA book perfect for teenage girls! This book follows the adventures of America Singer, who unexpectedly gets the opportunity to participate in a 'Selection' held by the prince of her country in which he will choose a wife. However, America doesn't have any interest in competing for a snooty prince's heart since her own heart lies elsewhere. When she unexpectedly gets chosen to participate and is thrust into a life filled with gorgeous gowns, competitive girls, and rebel attacks, will she have a change of heart?
I was not able to put this book down while reading! It's filled with romance, suspense, a hint of politics, and drama.

Do you love romance and action? Well, Kiera Cass has written the book for you! The Selection is about America, a lower class citizen who enters a contest to marry the prince. But bad news, she's left the love of her life back home. There's a lot of tension because she needs to be in the contest, but does not buy into all of the pomp and circumstance around it. This is a very popular book, so it isn't really a hidden gem, but I think that it deserves all of the hype. The characters are very believable and the romantic scenes are really exciting and makes you turn every page. Kiera Cass is amazing for thinking of this story! 5/5 stars - SAPL Read It & Review Contributor

I liked The Selection. It reminded me of a cross between The Bachelorette and The Hunger Games with a little Twilight thrown in.
America is chosen to be one of 35 girls to compete for the affections of Prince Maxon to become the next princess in the kingdom of Illea. The Selection is great for America's family, giving them more money and a chance to move up from the caste of fives, but America is already in love with Aspen, who is a caste six and believes he will never be good enough for her. When Aspen is hired to work as a palace guard, it creates a love triangle that I assume will continue throughout the next book. Maxon likes America because she speaks her mind and is honest about her feelings, but she doesn't fit the mold of royalty and makes it clear that she doesn't think of the prince as more than a friend. It isn't long; however, before America realizes that Maxon is more than a shallow monarch and her feelings for him begin to deepen.
This story is a perfect young adult romance with lots of angst and a protagonist that most girls can identify with.

I think that this first book was maybe my favorite in the whole series. I pickup this book and stayed up so late because I just had to finish it! I would definitely read this if you like royalty and romance books!

It's bad, the characters are jerks - and I love it. It's a guilty pleasure.

Everyone loves this series and it honestly confuses me. It's not terrible, and the author can certainly write, but my big thing with love stories is that there HAS to be another plot alongside the romance. The Selection did not have this even remotely, and the love triangle just felt cheap. I was expecting something much better, though the dystopian world isn't necessarily poorly done. I am shocked that this series was successful though. Don't waste your time on this series

This book, while dealing with somewhat complex subject matter, is a delightfully easy read. The dynamic between the near-future dystopia and the archaic "Selection" process is intriguing, especially paired with the slightly naive, but otherwise self-aware and pragmatic main character.

I found this series a year ago and I'm still in love with it. It took me less than a day to read this and fall in love. It's a great mix of romance and dystopian. Not going to lie, Maxon is definitely my favorite character. I hope that you'll give this book and this series a try, it is most definitely worth it. I hope you fall in love with this book, this series, and its characters as quickly as fast I did.

Be warned: you will be awe-struck reading this series, and you won’t be able to keep your eyes off the book, be warned! (I see other comments like another novel, and I can only think of this much...)

"One can never help being born into perfection" i whispered.
He came close, wrapping an arm around my waist so that we faced each other. His nose tickled mine. He ran his fingers across my check so gently it seemed he was afraid i might break.
"No, i don't suppose you can,'' He breathed
With his hand holding my face towards his he lowered his lips to mine and gave me the faintest whisper of a kiss.
Something about the tentativeness of it made me feel beautiful. Without a word, i could understand how excited he was to have this moment, but then afraid at the same time. And deeper then any of that, i sensed that he adored me."
