While on patrol one foggy evening, Game Warden Mike Bowditch receives a call for help. A woman has reportedly struck a deer on a lonely road. When he arrives on the scene, he finds blood - but the driver and the deer have vanished. The state trooper assigned to the accident appears unconcerned.

Details of the disappearance are eerily familiar. Seven years earlier, Erland Jefferts was convicted of the rape and murder of a college student and sentenced to life in prison. It seemed that justice had been served. But when the missing woman is found brutalized in a manner that suggests Jefferts may have been framed, Bowditch reopens the case - and the old wounds between Maine locals and rich summer residents. As Bowdich closes in on his quarry, he discovers how dangerous and powerful his opponents are.

This was my second read for this author and I will definitely continue to follow him. Clever twists, good character development, and a satisfying ending. Kept me challenged, and for the most part I didn't find any aspect too far out on a limb to be acceptable!

I don't know what to make of this series. His first book was better than his second. It to me seems far fetched that a game warden is better at cracking cases then the cops. He always has a hunch that leads him to be in the right spot at the right time. At times his writing seems spotty and silly and in the next paragraph or so he puts down some good stuff.
Hard to figure out maybe he will improve as he goes along.

In "Trespasser" I have found a potential rival to C.J. Box. This is quite a good novel with enough twists to keep anyone interested. If you consider how Americans differ from the British you will see that only an American should be considered fit to describe Americans. Give me a feedback on that statement.

Mike Bowditch is a great character, sure hope they don't get tom Cruise to play him.

A strong second novel with an atmospheric Maine setting and a clever-enough murder thriller plot to keep the pages turning.
