"In the slums of Accra, Ghana's fast-moving, cosmopolitan capital, teenagers are turning up dead. Inspector Darko Dawson has seen many crimes, but this latest string of murders--in which all the young victims bear a chilling signature--is the most unsettling of his career. Are these heinous acts a form of ritual killing or the work of a lone, cold-blooded monster? With time running out, Dawson embarks on a harrowing journey through the city's underbelly and confronts the brutal world of the urban poor, where street children are forced to fight for their very survival--and a cunning killer seems just out of reach."--Page [4] of cover.

Kwei Quartey, who is a doctor in Southern California and whose father is Ghanian, travels to Ghana frequently to do research for his books. He is obviously deeply touched by the plight of the street children of Accra. The dedication is "To all those who dare to care". The deaths of the teenagers, whose bodies are left in the filthiest places imaginable, and the descriptions of the lives of their compatriots is heart wrenching. The reader knows of the motives of suspects that Darko is unaware of as well as those that he does know of. The reveal is a surprise and the ending is uplifting.
