A good documentary of a North Korean family living in Japan - parents dedicated to Kim Jong Il, daughter more westernized.

They visit the rest of their family in Pyongyang, capitol of North Korea, a very bleak, broken down, regimented city.

Sad, those living in Pyongyang, stuck there, but there is no political discussion to see how much they know of the outside world or if they even would like to leave.

You need to see at least one movie filmed in Pyongyang to get a taste of the place.

This documentary was shown at the Seattle International Film Festival several years ago. I found it interesting and touching. It is a daughter's memorial of her father (I loved this guy) and to a much lesser extent, her mother (mother as young woman is beautiful.) Father and mother are Korean ex-pats who have moved the family to Japan. He and mother are adent communists and are local communist leaders in Japan. This leads to a decision for their three sons that has lasting effects on the sons and family. I think the daughter who produces this documentary did a great job with almost no money. (Like, I think she had a handicam and just did it.)
