Amanda McCready was four years old when she vanished from a Boston neighborhood twelve years ago. Desperate pleas for help from the child's aunt led investigators Kenzie and Gennaro to take on the case. The pair risked everything to find the young girl, only to orchestrate her return to a neglectful mother and a broken home. Now Amanda is sixteen and gone again. A stellar student, brilliant but aloof, she seemed destined to escape her upbringing. Yet Amanda's aunt is once more knocking on Patrick Kenzie's door, fearing the worst for the little girl who has blossomed into a striking, clever young woman, a woman who hasn't been seen in weeks.

Not my usual fare, but I enjoyed it. Well-told story with compelling characters.

I tried Dennis Lehane out of hunger and I'm almost certain I read an okay one by him a week or two ago. But this one seemed to me to be badly contrived and poorly executed. I got through a chapter or three before I decided to put it into the 'check-back-in' pile without wasting more time on it.

A great read, like prett much everything by Lehane. I enjoyed some of his other novels more, but it's still pretty good.

Not as good as "Mystic River" but I kept turning the pages! I intend to read all of Lehane's novels. A great writer!

Follow up to author's previous book Gone Baby Gone. Looks at the definitions of morality and ethics. A good book worth reading.

Typical Dennis Lehane -- admist chaos, a storyline weaves its way through and everything starts to make sense.

Just finished this book. My first Lehane novel and I really enjoyed it. The characters had a great sense of humor that did not detract from the drama of the storyline. Good twists throughout.

SOOO happy they're back. I didn't think Lehane would ever revisit this cast (who wouldn't miss Bubba?). Although much has changed in their lives, the voices are familiar from the start.
But there's an injection of new crazies & the stakes are higher this time with the addition of Gabby. Great read but bittersweet.
